Team E2, composed of one British, one Myanmar, and 6 Japanese students, won the Best Presentation Award in Project-based Learning in Molecular Pathogenesis Course of Medical School, Okayama University on April 30, 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this course, third-year medical students learn about\nmolecular pathology in groups of 6 to 8 students. Students actively learn about\ndiseases such as diabetes using textbooks and academic literatures during 2-week\nsession. Finally, they give a lecture about their study subject in 45 minutes\nin front of ~150 audiences including classmates and teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this exciting course, Ken was assigned to mentor Team E2. The subject disease of Team E2 was Low-Density Lipoprotein Receptors and Familial Hypercholesterolemia. Members used English in everyday discussion and their great lecture. Ken’s experience at the Institute of Education was helpful to increase the value of the students’ presentation. The key factors for success were high standards of work, high expectation for students\u2019 ability, and freedom of action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Takahashi Lab at Okayama University uses principles of physiology, cellular and molecular biology, and biophysics. The purpose of the lab is to unveil the mechanisms of diseases through collaborations with scientists, epidemiologists, and corporate alliances. The alliance includes Harvard University, Boston University, Tokyo University of Science, and PD Aerospace, Ltd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
