ビデオ公開:ヒト虚血性心疾患のiPS細胞モデル

Summary Dr. Ken Takahashi of Okayama University published a video article on a model of ischemic heart disease using human iPS heart cells. The method makes it easier to create a cardiac ischemia model. The use of this model will lead to the development of drugs for ischemic heart disease and reveal the cause of myocardial infarction. On May 5, Research Associate Professor Ken Takahashi of Okayama University published an article about the model of ischemic heart disease using cardiomyocytes differentiated from human iPS cells (Biochem Biophys Res Commun 2019, 520(3): 600-605). A video for this experimental method was released to the public today in Journal of Visualized Experiments. Model of…

レポート:宇宙生物学研究

This article is from a newsletter of “Integral Understanding of life-regulation mechanism from ‘SPACE’ (Living in Space)“, a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas funded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, in which Ken Takahashi participated as a project member. Mechanosensing Mechanisms for Sensing Mechanical Stress Including Gravitational Changes Goal Bone loss and muscle atrophy occur in the microgravity environment of space. However, it remains poorly understood how cells including bone and muscle cells sense gravity. The purpose of this study was to elucidate how cells sense gravity. The ultimate goal is to understand the mechanism by which living organisms perceive mechanical stimuli, including gravity, at…

研究准教授の称号付与式

Okayama University provides support for researchers with outstanding research achievements from the perspectives of promoting research strength and fostering young researchers. In this context, the university has established a “research associate professor” system, which is an incentive system for lecturers and assistant professors. On August 24, a ceremony was held to give the title of research associate professor to the 8 elected lecturers and assistant professors, including Ken Takahashi, who have excellent research achievements. At the title award ceremony, President Hirofumi Makino handed the certificate in the presence of Director and Vice President Yasutomo Nasu. In the greeting, President Makino encouraged the awardees. I hope that you will continue to…

一流ビデオ科学誌JoVEのビデオ撮影

Takahashi Lab filmed the article “Model of Ischemic Heart Disease and Video-Based Comparison of Cardiomyocyte Contraction Using hiPSC-Derived Cardiomyocytes” published in the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE). Ph.D. students of the laboratory mainly contributed to the publication of this paper. In addition to carefully checking the experimental procedure, the “actresses” and “actors” memorized the lines and performed two rehearsals in advance. Thanks to the preparation, the filming was a lot of fun. JoVE is the leading peer-reviewed video methods journal. With this journal, reputable researchers including the lab of Dr. Oliver Smithies, a 2007 Nobel laureate, and the Huang lab at Stanford University, published their works. Each year JoVE publishes about 1,000…

会議の未来を創れ:初の日本生体医工学会オンライン大会

Japan Society for Medical and Biological Engineering, which has a history of 58 years and has 2,700 members, held its first-ever online conference in May 2020. Ken Takahashi, as a member of the executive committee, helped bring this JSMBE annual meeting online by establishing operation procedures and carrying out public relations activities via twitter and facebook. The 59th Annual Conference of Japanese Society for Medical and Biological Engineering (JSMBE) was originally planned as an on-site meeting as “usual”. But the widespread coronavirus epidemic is now changing the definition of being “usual”. At the pre-coronavirus academic conferences, people from different places, sometimes gathered across borders, to discuss research and the future…

研究報告2019: Heart-on-chipによる心筋梗塞時不整脈のメカニズム解明

The principal investigator, Ken Takahashi, traveled to Boston, USA from the end of July 2018, and began research at the Wyss Institute at Harvard University. His original plan was to complete the joint research at the end of July 2019 and return to Japan. Related: Joining Harvard Medical School However, Takahashi joined the “Blood-Brain Barrier Team” within the Wyss Institute, which has strong ties with industry including pharmaceutical companies. As a result of the development of the fascinating project, he extended the research period in Boston by 4 months, which led him to form a network with about 50 excellent researchers from all over the world. Common mechanism for myocardial…
