Okayama University provides support for researchers with outstanding research achievements from the perspectives of promoting research strength and fostering young researchers. In this context, the university has established a “research associate professor” system, which is an incentive system for lecturers and assistant professors. On August 24, a ceremony was held to give the title of research associate professor to the 8 elected lecturers and assistant professors, including Ken Takahashi, who have excellent research achievements. 一流ビデオ科学誌JoVEのビデオ撮影

Takahashi Lab filmed the article “Model of Ischemic Heart Disease and Video-Based Comparison of Cardiomyocyte Contraction Using hiPSC-Derived Cardiomyocytes” published in the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE). Ph.D. students of the laboratory mainly contributed to the publication of this paper. In addition to carefully checking the experimental procedure, the “actresses” and “actors” memorized the lines and performed two rehearsals in advance. Thanks to the preparation, the filming was a lot of fun. JoVE is the leading peer-reviewed video methods journal. Japan Society for Medical and Biological Engineering, which has a history of 58 years and has 2,700 members, held its first-ever online conference in May 2020. Ken Takahashi, as a member of the executive committee, helped bring this JSMBE annual meeting online by establishing operation procedures and carrying out public relations activities via twitter and facebook. 研究報告2019: Heart-on-chipによる心筋梗塞時不整脈のメカニズム解明

The principal investigator, Ken Takahashi, traveled to Boston, USA from the end of July 2018, and began research at the Wyss Institute at Harvard University. His original plan was to complete the joint research at the end of July 2019 and return to Japan. Ken Takahashi, Ph.D. at Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, has been appointed as a Research Associate Professor by Okayama University in April 2020. The position of Research Associate Professor was established this year to promote a researcher who has excellent research ability to play an active role as a principal investigator. Research project will study a new way to tackle myocardial infarction, stroke, and damage after kidney transplantation caused by ischemia–reperfusion injury Assistant Professor Ken Takahashi, Ph.D. at Okayama University was awarded Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B) by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. JSPS is Japan’s sole independent funding agency with a mission of advancing science. The research fund carries an award of ~$140K to uncover the common mechanism for myocardial infarction, stroke, and damage after kidney transplantation. Dr. Cherry Maung to start a collaboration on cardiac ischemia–reperfusion injury (OKAYAMA) — Today, Department of Cardiovascular Physiology, Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Okayama University welcomed Dr. Cherry Maung from University of Medicine 1, Yangon, Myanmar as a Visiting Researcher. Fighting COVID-19 epidemic with Zoom video conference

Ken hosted a Zoom video conference for research report, which was originally scheduled as a face-to-face meeting, on February 27 and 28, 2020. Online meeting is an effective option to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection. The conference is a biannual event held by a research group of “Living in Space”, a section of Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Area supported by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan.
