Dr. Cherry Maung, recommended by Ministry of Health and Sports in Myanmar, joined Takahashi Lab as Visiting Researcher

Dr. Cherry Maung to start a collaboration on cardiac ischemia–reperfusion injury

(OKAYAMA) — Today, Department of Cardiovascular Physiology, Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Okayama University welcomed Dr. Cherry Maung from University of Medicine 1, Yangon, Myanmar as a Visiting Researcher. Dr. Cherry Maung was nominated as a research fellow by the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Ministry of Health and Sports.

Since the early days of my medical student life, I have heard about collaborated research programs between Japan and Myanmar. This has inspired me to pursue a career that allows me to perform researches on human physiology. With support from the University of Medicine 1, Yangon and the Okayama University, I had an opportunity to discover new mechanisms involved in cardiac ischemia–reperfusion injury. I met with remarkable professionals working together to uncover breakthroughs which will save millions of lives in future. It was extremely fortunate for me to work side by side with these elites and attain valuable experience and knowledge that will benefit me and the institute that I work in. This program is simply remarkable.

Dr. Cherry Maung earned her master’s degree in physiology at University of Medicine 1, Yangon, Myanmar, and currently is a Demonstrator in Department of Physiology at the university.

Her experience as a cardiovascular physiologist, combined with her experience in clinic and academic teaching will bring big value to our team,” said Dr. Takahashi, who is Assistant Professor at Department of Cardiovascular Physiology, Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Okayama University.

Takahashi Lab at Okayama University uses principles of physiology, cellular and molecular biology, and biophysics. The purpose of the lab is to develop science and medicine by unveiling the mechanisms of diseases through collaborations with scientists, epidemiologists, and corporate alliances. The alliance includes Harvard University, Boston University, Tokyo University of Science, and PD Aerospace, Ltd.
