Awards recognize organ-on-a-chip business plan and presenter’s potential as an entrepreneur Research Associate Professor Ken Takahashi has won New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) Award and Chugoku Bank Award at Okayama University Pitch Contest 2022 for his organ-on-a-chip business plan and his potential as an entrepreneur. Okayama University Innovation Management Core Venture Support Field, together with the Chugoku Bank and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, held Okayama University Pitch Contest 2022 with the aim of fostering entrepreneurship momentum within the university and deepening exchanges between entrepreneurs and companies. Scientific achievements and potential impact on the global challenges

SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS 2010-2021 I discovered a new molecular target associated with the development of myocardial infarction. This research is currently ongoing and its results may help to prevent stroke and organ damage after organ transplantation. I have obtained one patent in connection with this research, published nine academic papers and issued four press releases, including one at EurekAlert! To further develop this line of research, I built an organ-on-a-chip as a visiting scholar at the Harvard University. These studies were supported by three grants from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.  I promoted scientific research through international collaborations. Research project will study a new way to tackle myocardial infarction, stroke, and damage after kidney transplantation caused by ischemia–reperfusion injury Assistant Professor Ken Takahashi, Ph.D. at Okayama University was awarded Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B) by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. JSPS is Japan’s sole independent funding agency with a mission of advancing science. The research fund carries an award of ~$140K to uncover the common mechanism for myocardial infarction, stroke, and damage after kidney transplantation. Ischemia–reperfusion injury occurs when blood perfusion is resumed after hours of restricted blood supply. During the ischemic period, toxic reactive oxygen species are accumulated in the blood. Ken Takahashi received the Outstanding Research Award at the 2019 International Conference for Leading and Young Medical Scientists (IC-LYMS 2019) in Taipei, Taiwan, which was organized by the Asia Pacific Society for Biology and Medical Sciences. The purpose of the conference was to provide a platform for the exchange and networking between top scientists, emerging young researchers, and students across a wide spectrum of biological and medical sciences. Nineteen presentations and three posters were presented at the conference, which took place four days from 20th to 23rd December 2019.
